Do you cover my part of the UK?

Yes. We collect from every part of the United Kingdom — England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — and consolidate everything through our warehouse before loading for Cyprus. Northern Ireland and the more remote Scottish addresses involve an additional leg, which we build into the schedule and the quotation from the outset.

Can you move just a few items rather than a whole house?

Yes, and a good proportion of our Cyprus work is part loads — a few rooms of furniture, boxes of possessions, a motorbike, inherited furniture going out to a family member. Part loads share container space with other consignments, which makes them considerably cheaper than a sole-use container.

Because those variables move the figure substantially, we do not publish price ranges that would mislead you — we survey properly and give you a firm written quotation instead.

Why won't you give me a rough price over the phone?

Accepted Answer

Because a rough price given without seeing what is moving is either so wide as to be useless or specific enough to be misleading, and both damage trust. A survey takes half an hour, can be done by video call, and produces a real figure you can plan around. We would rather spend that half hour than quote you a number we might have to revise.

What makes the biggest difference to the price?

The amount of space your effects occupy in the container is the single largest factor, followed by whether you take a sole-use container or share one, then the level of packing service, then collection location. This is why being ruthless about what actually comes with you has such a direct effect on the bill.

Is the quotation fixed or can it change?

The quotation is firm on the basis of what was surveyed. It changes only if what is moving changes — items added after the survey, a different address, or access conditions materially different from those described. We would always rather discuss a revision with you in advance than surprise you afterwards.

Your quotation sets out what is included and what is not. Charges that can arise separately include port storage if clearance is delayed by documentation, any duty or VAT assessed by Cypriot customs, and additional handling where delivery access is genuinely exceptional. Plan on several weeks door to door for a sole-use container, longer for groupage because the container waits until it is full and is unpacked at destination before delivery, and a matter of days for air freight. The sea passage itself is the predictable part; the variability sits in collection scheduling at one end and port release, clearance and delivery at the other.

What is the difference between a sole-use container and groupage?

A sole-use container carries only your effects, sails on the first suitable vessel after loading and goes straight to your address after clearance. Groupage shares a container with other consignments, which is cheaper but means waiting for the container to fill and for it to be unpacked at destination. If you are moving a whole house, sole-use is usually both faster and better value; for part loads, groupage is the sensible choice.

Can you guarantee an arrival date?

No responsible mover will guarantee a date for sea freight, because sailing schedules, port operations and customs clearance are outside our control. Why does the inventory need to be so detailed?

Because Cypriot customs assess your shipment from it. An inventory reading "12 boxes, household goods" invites a full physical inspection with the delay and cost that follows. One that itemises each carton with a realistic used value allows clearance to proceed on paper. It is tedious to produce and it is the single best investment of your time in the whole process.

What can't I ship to Cyprus?

Sea and air freight prohibit flammable liquids and fuels, gas cylinders and aerosols, paints and solvents, fireworks and ammunition, illegal substances and perishable food. Live plants and soil are restricted. Certain batteries are restricted, especially by air. Alcohol and tobacco beyond modest allowances attract duty. We give you a clear list at survey so nothing has to be unloaded on the day.

What happens if my container is inspected?

It is opened, the contents are compared against your inventory, and it is resealed. An inspection is not an accusation and happens routinely. With an accurate inventory it is brief. Without one it can take days, during which port storage charges accrue.

Can I ship new items I have just bought for the Cyprus house?

You can, but items that are visibly new and still in retail packaging do not look like used personal effects and may be assessed for duty and VAT. Tell us at survey so they can be declared properly rather than found during an inspection.

Do you pack everything for me?

We can, and for an international move most clients choose full packing because export shipments face weeks at sea, multiple handling points and a customs inspection. Furniture dismantling and reassembly is included as standard on every job. If you would rather pack your own cartons to save money you can, though self-packed boxes cannot be covered for damage to their contents because we have not seen what went in or how.

What is the difference between full packing and self-pack?

With full packing our crews wrap and box everything in export-grade materials, produce the itemised inventory as they go, and the contents are insurable. With self-pack you box your own effects, which reduces the labour cost but means the contents of those cartons are not covered for damage and the inventory is your responsibility. Most people choose a hybrid: we do the kitchen, glassware, artwork and anything fragile, they do books, linen and clothes.

Will you dismantle my furniture?

Yes, and reassemble it at the other end. Dismantling and reassembly of standard furniture is included as standard rather than charged as an extra. Fixings are bagged, labelled and kept with the item so nothing arrives with missing screws.

Fragile items are individually wrapped and boxed with proper cushioning in export-grade materials. Artwork, mirrors, marble, antiques and anything genuinely valuable are crated in custom-built timber cases rather than blanket-wrapped, because a sea container is a demanding environment. We identify what needs crating at survey.

Will UK appliances work in Cyprus?

Yes. Cyprus uses the same three-pin plug and the same nominal voltage as the United Kingdom, so your kettle, washing machine, television and power tools work without adaptors or transformers. It is one of the genuine practical advantages Cyprus has over other Mediterranean destinations.

What should I leave behind?

Freestanding wardrobes, because almost every Cypriot property has fitted ones. Heavy winter curtains and thick carpets, which are wrong for the climate and consume a lot of volume. Most garden furniture and barbecues, which are cheap to buy locally. Flat-pack furniture, which rarely survives a second dismantling. And anything you are keeping out of habit rather than affection.

Do you unpack at the other end?

If you ask for it, yes. Unpacking places your effects into the rooms and cupboards you want them in and removes the packing debris, which matters more than people anticipate when they are facing a house full of cartons in unfamiliar heat. It is a separate service and we will price it on your quotation.

Can I take my dog or cat to Cyprus?

Yes, and correctly documented cats and dogs from the UK are not routinely quarantined on arrival. Start at least three months ahead because the sequence cannot be compressed: microchip first, then rabies vaccination, then a mandatory waiting period, then an official health certificate issued within a short window before travel. Nearly every pet travel problem we see is a timeline problem rather than a rules problem.

Should I take my car to Cyprus?

Often yes, because Cyprus drives on the left and your right-hand-drive car is correctly configured rather than a permanent nuisance — unlike Spain, France or Italy. Shipping inside the container with your furniture is usually the most economical route. The complications are at the destination, where import treatment depends on your residency position and the car must be registered and inspected locally within time limits.

Can I put boxes inside the car to save space?

No. Customs treat the vehicle and anything inside it as a single declaration, and undeclared items cause delays and penalties as well as being uninsured. The car must travel clean, empty and with minimal fuel.

How do pets actually travel?

Most travel as manifest cargo in a pressurised, temperature-controlled hold, which is safer and considerably less stressful than owners imagine. Crates must be IATA-compliant and sized so the animal can stand, turn and lie down naturally. Get the crate weeks early and let your pet sleep in it at home — it makes a real difference to the day.

Can I drive my UK-registered car in Cyprus indefinitely?

Cover is based on the declared value of your effects, so the valued inventory does double duty for customs and insurance. The realistic cost of replacing them, item by item, rather than a round number. Undervaluing means a shortfall on any claim; substantially overvaluing raises questions at customs. The valued inventory produced during packing is the basis for both, which is why we take care over it.

Can you store my things if my Cyprus property is not ready?

Yes, at either end. UK storage holds your effects in our warehouse before shipping, which suits people who complete a UK sale before their Cypriot purchase. Cyprus-side storage holds them after clearance until your property is ready. Storage is charged weekly with no long tie-in, so a short delay costs little.

What if I need to store things for a long time?

That is fine, and we will quote you a monthly rate rather than charging weekly if you are looking at an extended period. A good number of clients store in the UK for months while a Cypriot purchase completes, and some store indefinitely while deciding whether the move is permanent.

Storage insurance is available and separate from transit cover. Our warehouse is secure, alarmed and dry, but the sensible position is to maintain cover for anything you would be upset to lose. We will explain the options when we quote.

Can British citizens still move to Cyprus after Brexit?

Yes, but you now need permission to stay beyond ninety days in any one-hundred-and-eighty-day period, because British citizens are third-country nationals. The main routes are residence based on demonstrable independent financial means (the usual choice for retirees), employment or self-employment, qualifying property investment, and family reunification. Start the process before you move — treating the ninety-day allowance as a way to live there while sorting residency out is the most common serious mistake.

Where do most British people live in Cyprus?

There is a well-established English-language private sector following British or international curricula, concentrated in Limassol, Nicosia, Paphos and Larnaca, at fees well below British independent schools. The free Greek-language state system works well for younger children who absorb the language quickly but is challenging for teenagers approaching public examinations.
