Customs & Documentation

Cyprus Customs Clearance and Documentation

Every declaration, inventory and clearance handled, including relief on personal effects.

Customs is where international moves go wrong, and almost always for the same reason: paperwork that was assembled in a hurry by somebody who had never assembled it before. A container sitting at Limassol accruing storage charges while a document is chased is an expensive and entirely avoidable situation. We prepare the documentation as part of the job, and our destination team presents it to Cypriot customs in the form they expect.

What customs actually wants to see

The core of any personal effects clearance is a detailed, valued inventory that matches what is physically in the container. Alongside it sit the export declarations, the bill of lading, evidence of your identity and residency position, and, where relief is claimed, evidence supporting that claim. Vague inventories that say 'household goods, twelve boxes' are what trigger inspections.

Relief on personal effects

People transferring their normal residence to Cyprus may be entitled to relief on used household effects, subject to conditions about ownership period, prior use and how soon after arrival the goods are imported. The rules are specific and they are applied by Cypriot customs, not by us — but we will tell you what the conditions are, what evidence to gather and how the timing of your shipment affects your position.

What cannot be shipped

Certain items cannot travel by sea or air under any circumstances, including flammable liquids, gas cylinders, aerosols, ammunition, drugs and perishable food. Others, such as alcohol, tobacco, plants and certain electronics, are permitted but attract duty or need specific declarations. We provide a clear list at survey stage so nothing has to be pulled from the load on the day.
