Moving to the Troodos Mountains
Stone villages, cool summers and actual snow — the Cyprus most British movers never consider.
There is a Cyprus that is nothing like the brochure, and it is only forty minutes above Limassol. The Troodos massif rises to nearly two thousand metres, carries snow in winter, and shelters a scattering of stone villages among pine forest, vineyards and terraced orchards. Summer temperatures are ten degrees below the coast. A small but committed number of British movers choose this over a sea view, usually people who have already spent a summer on the coast and decided they would rather have shade.

The mountains offer genuine seasons, cool nights in August, forest walks, exceptional local wine, and stone houses with real character at prices the coast cannot match. It is a serious lifestyle choice rather than a comfortable default: villages are small, some services close in winter, snow occasionally affects access, and a car is non-negotiable. Those who choose it tend to be emphatic that they would not swap.
The property, and whether your furniture will fit
Traditional stone houses, many restored, with thick walls, small windows, narrow doorways and steep internal stairs. This matters enormously for a household move: a three-seat sofa that fits a Paphos villa may not turn on a Kakopetria staircase. Newer village property exists but the traditional stock is the attraction and the constraint at once.
Everyday life here
Village life means small shops, a taverna or two, and a drive to Limassol or Nicosia for anything substantial including hospitals and secondary schooling. Most villages have a health centre. Winter genuinely needs heating, and a wood burner is the usual answer.
Delivering to Troodos & Rural Cyprus
This is the most demanding delivery area in Cyprus and requires planning rather than optimism. The mountain roads are steep, narrow and switchbacked, and articulated vehicles cannot reach most villages. Deliveries are transferred to smaller rigid vehicles, sometimes with a further shuttle for the last few hundred metres. Winter weather can affect access.
